5 Things to Check after Buying a Gadget

So you bought that gadget you wanted last Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But first things first. Below is the list of the things to check after buying the gadget and even before you using it.

1. Check the packaging if it is tampered.

This is the first thing that you will see before you even open your new gadget. If you notice that the wrap has been opened and the seal is removed, expect that what you bought has been previously used or open. This could also mean that what you bought is not really new.

2. Check your receipt if all the items received is what is in the list.
This is a safe way to be sure that ‘you get what you paid for’ literally. Stores also accept this receipt as a warranty for immediate exchanges in case there is a defect in the item.

3. Check the content of the box as detailed in the label outside or on the manual.
Make sure all the accessories are included in the box. Most, if not all, gadgets now have this list of what should be included in the box – eg. cables, adapters, cards, CD’s, remotes, etc. Checking these will save you trips back to the retail store. It will save you frustration too!

4. Write down the serial numbers, date of purchase, name of the store, and the customer service telephone number.
This step will not only make things handy but can also be a future reference too. Manufacturer warranty and guarantees require your serial numbers, models number and date of purchase. You can also use this in case the gadget needs to be registered online or by mail. Be sure to keep the note where you write this information.

5. Check the item itself for any damages or problems.
And finally, before turning the gadget on or before charging it up, check first for any obvious damages. Check the covers, the buttons, batteries or wires. This assures you that you will not void the warranty because you have not used the gadget yet.

A Google Wave View

Just this morning I received a mail from Google accepting my request to preview Google Wave. I applied a few days ago after seeing some of my friends tweeting about it. As of today, I have not given out any of the 8 invites I have so I will be sharing to you a preview of the Google wave.

True to its tagline, Google Wave is a live communications tool that can be shared by several people at the same time. A single window can accept links, images, videos, texts in rich format, and maps that can be read and replied to by the invited participants. It is a swift collaboration tool that is so versatile compared to the the messaging systems we have always known.

Without further adieu friends, this is Google Wave. (click the thumbnails for a bigger view)gwave1gwave3gwave2

Star Trek BluRay

BluRay of Star Trek was released in the US last November 17. The BluRay was included 2 and 3-Disk Special Edition.

I was able to buy the 3 Disk Special Edition of Star Trek BluRay from a local video store which cost $43. It is expensive in this side of the world, I know..

We watched it in Samsung BluRay home theater BD 1255 and Samsung 40" LED TV. The home theater BD 1255 is a 5.1 surround system, while the LED TV is capable of 100mHz. This 100 mHz means that it can play fast action sequences with out noticeable delays or square pixel movements.

To rate, Star Trek Bluray is superb! Bluray did provide an excellent audio and video experience. There were times that I was gripping on the edge of my seat! Which I do not get this reaction from watching the usual DVD's or plain cable TV.

Aside from Star Trek Bluray, I have also bought Hidalgo and The Day The Earth Stood Still Bluray. There is no turning back. HD is the new source of superb entertainment!
